According to the Chief of Police, Carlos Garcia, Monticello officers were dispatched on April 21,2024 in reference to a disturbance involving a
shooting on Hwy. 278 intersection and North Larkin St. Officers arrived on the scene and found Markrecus Clark, 28, of Monticello, with a gunshot
injury to the leg. Emergency Medical Services was notified and arrived to treat and transport the victim to the hospital.
Malesceia Carter,27, of Monticello, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm from a Vehicle: 2nd Degree. Carter is
currently at the Drew County Detention Facility waiting for 1st appearance.
The investigation is still ongoing.
