On 07/16/2026 at approximately 2339 hours while on patrol, Officer Burns was traveling southbound near 1201 North Mosby Street when she observed a white male lying in the northbound lane of the roadway. At this time, Officer Burns conducted a welfare check and made contact with the subject, who was later identified as Jonathan Sandifer.
While speaking with Sandifer, Officer Burnsdetected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. While officers continuedto speak with Sandifer, officers observed he had difficulty maintaining his balance and wasunsteady on his feet.
Officers also noticed Sandifer’s speech was heavily slurred. Officers asked Sandifer if he needed medical assistance; however, he became extremely irate, yelling at officers and causing a disturbance.
Sandifer then clenched his fists and began walking toward the officers in an aggressive manner. For officer safety, Sandifer was then detained. While officers attempted to place him in restraints, Sandifer continued yelling profanities loud enough to draw several nearby residents outside their homes.
As officers attempted to place Sandifer into the patrolvehicle, he intentionally stiffened his body to prevent being seated inside. Several officers assisted by physically placing him into the patrol vehicle. Sandifer continued to actively resist by kicking, pulling away from officers, and using physical force to prevent officers from securing him.
After continued resistance, officers were eventually able to place Sandifer inside the patrol vehicle and secure him. Sandifer was transported to Union County Criminal Justice Facility where he will be held on a 1,100 dollars bond and has a mandatory court date of 08/10/26 at 0900 hours.
