9/11, what a somber day of reflection and remembrance of those who lost their lives that horrific day 25 years ago. Like many I can still remember various things of that day in which I started as just another day. The uncertainty of our nation as those plans flew into the Twin Towers and crashed across this great land was definitely something we had not experienced before. We all remember hearing the phone calls from loved ones from on those flights. Still today I can hear them and tear up as they gave their final goodbyes. First responders bravely arriving on scene and sacrificing themselves and for months recovery efforts being made to find these hero’s and the innocent. Our military doing what needed to be done to defend our great country to help ensure that it may never happen again.
Gah, what a time that was in our lives 25 years ago. But I remember the love shown as Americans came together setting aside differences. The yellow ribbons wrapping trees across this nation from sea to shining sea in support of our brave men and women. Flags flying high and proudly as we stood tall against enemies foreign and domestic. But the greatest thing wasn’t the fear of where our country was headed instead it was the love that we had for one another.
25 years, a quarter of a century has passed and while many of us still remember a majority have forgotten. Let’s not wait until another terrorist attack happens to regain that love we once had for one another. Do it today, do it tomorrow, do it from here on out in remembrance of those who lost their lives. Most importantly do it for yourself, your families and our country.
My prayers go out to all of those who suffered this violent day in our nations history 25 years ago.
Sheriff Tim Nichols
