On October 14th 2024, at approximately 2:15 pm, I, Lieutenant Barnes, received a call on the UAM Duty Officer Phone that there was a fight in progress in the Royer Hall Parking lot. When I arrived in the parking lot I saw a green ford truck with a flat bed and a gray Chrysler leaving the area where the fight happened. Both vehicles pulled over for me when I got behind them. I made contact with the driver of the Chrysler 200, Catherine Brent, and the passenger of the green Ford, Au’Vion Horton.

Chief Kidwell arrived on scene and he spoke with Horton as I spoke with Brent. Brent admitted to yelling, pushing, and grabbing Horton. She stated Horton never hit her or physically hurt her.

Brent said Horton was telling her to leave and she got mad at him for telling her he was leaving. I then spoke with Horton and noticed a approximately 4 inch long scratch on his right inner forearm that appeared to have happened recently. Horton said he never hit or physically touched her but that she did shove him and yell at him.

At this time Horton made arrangements to come to the UPD at 4:00 p.m today and go over a lethality screening for domestic violence victims. I let him leave the scene at that time. I advised Brent that she would be arrested for Domestic Battery 3rd and Disorderly Conduct. I then asked her to empty her pockets on trunk of her vehicle and I patted her down to ensure she had no weapons on her person.

I then handcuffed her behind her back and doubled locked the cuffs. I transported her to the UPD. Once we arrived at the UPD I uncuffed her and took her into the interview room of the UPD. I ran her via ACIC and she had a warrant for her arrest out of Pulaski County. However, we were out of extradition. I read Brent her Miranda Rights and offered to let her give a verbal or written statement.

She verbally stated that Horton did nothing wrong and that she had yelled at him, pushed him and grabbed at him and that he pulled away from her. I filled out her Arrest Disposition Report and her citation at this time.

At this time Brent was banned from all UAM campuses and events by Chief Kidwell. Myself and Chief Kidwell transported her to the Drew County Detention Center where she was booked into jail for charges of Domestic Battery 3rd Degree, Disorderly Conduct, and Driving While Driver’s License Suspended.

I noted on the ADR she is to be held for first appearance.

A Laura’s law lethality screening was conducted with Horton. He did not screen in.

Brent appeared before District Judge Bruce Anderson on 10/15/2025 for her first appearance. She was given a $1,500 commercial bond and ordered to appear in court on December 3rd, 2024.
