Softball Splits Doubleheader With Tigers

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team returned home to Alvy Early Field at Ryburn Park to host the Tigers of East Central University for Senior Weekend. The series opened on Thursday with a doubleheader that saw the Blossoms drop game one, 7-2, in heartbreak fashion, but bounce back for a 4-2 win in game two.

Game 1 | 7 Innings

East Central: 7, Arkansas-Monticello: 2
WP: C. Williams (5-3)
LP: Kayla Olthouse (3-6)

Scoring Recap:
The Tigers were on the board first in the third, taking advantage of a Blossom error to take the lead.

UAM responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own. Kyann Woods drove in the first on a single through the four-hole, followed by an RBI single through the six-hole from Dacia Sexton.

Errors in the seventh inning led to five unearned runs for East Central. The Blossoms were unable to respond in the bottom of the inning, concluding game one with a loss.

Pitching Performance:
– Kyann Woods started in the circle for the Blossoms in the series opener. The senior allowed one hit through 4.0 innings pitched, with one unearned run scored and five strikeouts.
– Kayla Olthouse tossed 2.1 innings for UAM, seeing errors lead to five unearned runs in her outing. She gave up only five hits and struck out three batters.
– Ronnie Johnson threw the final two outs of the game, with no hits or runs allowed.

Offensive Showcase:
– Jadyn Hart – 2-for-2 with a double, 1 run scored, and 1 BB.
– Maddie Pfleging – 1-for-3 with a double
– Kyann Woods – 1-for-2 with 1 RBI


Game 2 | 7 Innings

East Central: 2, Arkansas-Monticello: 4
WP: Ronnie Johnson (4-4)
LP: A. Garner (4-7)
SV: None

Scoring Recap:
The Blossoms were first on the board in game two, adding a run in both the first and second innings. Dacia Sexton was the first to cross the plate, scoring on a wild pitch. Maddie Pfleging singled up the middle in the second to bring in Lauren Spoon. 

East Central tied the game, 2-2, in the fourth off a solo home run and a bases-loaded single.

Arkansas-Monticello retook the lead in the fifth and never looked back, as Emmy Apodaca scored on a close call at home plate after a single up the middle from Kyann Woods. Sophie Wood drove in Woods for the final run of the ball game on a double to right field. 

Pitching Performance:
– Ronnie Johnson started in the circle for the Blossoms and pitched all 7 innings. She allowed only two runs on eight hits, to claim her fourth win on the season.

Offensive Showcase:
– Maddie Pfleging – 1-for-1 with 2 BB and 1 RBI
– Sophie Wood – 1-for-3 with a double and 1 RBI.
– Lauren Spoon – 1-for-3 with a double and 1 run scored.
– Kyann Woods – 1-for-1 with an RBI and 1 run scored.

Due Up For The Blossoms
The series will conclude at Ryburn Park tomorrow afternoon with first pitch set for noon. Senior Day recognition is set to follow.
