We are almost done and we saved an estimated $40,000!
The Oakland Cemetery acts as a vital waterway for storm drainage for several neighborhoods and streets. The project was listed in 2022 as a top 10 priority drainage project in a study by a City engineering firm. The deteriorating ditches had come close to affected graves and in years past, drainage incidents had washed property away and caused headstones to shift in different areas as well as flooding streets and neighborhoods where water could not flow properly. Stagnant water in the open ditches also led to mosquito issues.
City crews started the project last week of removing remaining collapsed culverts and replacing them. The first 3 photos are “before” photos, with the rest being taken during the project as it nears the final stages of completion. The repaired area will be re-seeded so grass will grow.
