Monticello Ambulance Service has partnered with Pafford Medical Services and offered to provide Emergency Medical Dispatch services to the City of Monticello and all of Drew county at no cost. The proposal was submitted to the City and county officials on August 23, 2024.
Emergency Medical Dispatch provides pre arrival instructions to 911 callers. The Emergency Medical Dispatcher can give step by step CPR instructions, bleeding control instructions, and emergency child birth instructions, along with coaching callers in caring for sick or injured patients in multiple other scenarios, prior to an Ambulance arriving on scene!
Other benefits would be the ability to see the closest available ambulance on our mapping system and sending the closest ambulance to the emergency call instead of the next ambulance up for rotation as Monticello Police Department’s current system operates. This would prioritize the response to the sick or injured patient, instead of just being a rotation.
Again, there will be no cost to the City of Monticello or Drew County.
There will be some expenses to the local ambulance services for upgrading radios and the mapping system. However, there will be no ongoing or recurring charges to the ambulance services for the dispatching service.
Monticello Ambulance Service will soon begin providing Emergency Medical Dispatch on every 911 call we answer and would like to extend this service to every citizen in Monticello and Drew county regardless of whether we are the responding ambulance service. Emergency Medical Dispatch is a vital link in the chain of survival and is proven to help save lives!
