IMG 5421

On Sunday, September 7, 2025, members of the Drew County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an apartment complex located on Highway 425 South in reference to a domestic-type disturbance where shots were fired. The University of Arkansas at Monticello Police responded since they were close, and while en route, they came across a vehicle described as being driven by a suspect involved in the incident.

A traffic stop was attempted on the vehicle, but the driver proceeded to flee from law enforcement, driving at high rates of speed and recklessly. The suspect then took Jordan Drive, where the vehicle wrecked at the dead end, and the driver proceeded to run on foot.

K-9 Aiko was called to the scene, along with his handler, Sgt. Austin, to search for the suspect. The suspect, who was later identified as Corey Sanders (26) of Wilmar, was located and apprehended by Aiko, Sgt. Austin, and Deputy Jaden Richardson. Sanders was charged with Felony Fleeing, Driving While Intoxicated, and Refusal to Submit to Test. He was taken before Judge Robert Gibson on September 8th for his First Judicial Appearance, where his bond was set at $50,000 commercial.

Sheriff Tim Nichols would like to thank members of the Monticello Police Department and UAM for their dedication and working alongside our Office. Chief of Police Carlos Garcia, Sgt. Fleming, Ofc. T. Austin, Ofc. E. Ferguson, and Lt. A. Barnes.

This case is still ongoing at this time.

Sheriff Tim Nichols
