On September 30, 2025 Sheriff Tim Nichols and members of the Drew County Sheriff’s Office responded to an apartment complex where it was alleged suspects were breaking into vehicles.
When confronted by tenants of the complex one suspect started shooting at residents on a balcony. An investigation was started into the incident and evidence was collected from the scene.
ZyTavious Chavis (23) of Wilmar was arrested on October 3, 2025 for Aggravated Assault, Breaking or Enter (X’s 2) and Terroristic Act based upon the evidence and information gathered.
Chavis was currently out on bond due to a July 20, 2025 incident where it was alleged he had shot someone. His bond was originally set in that case at $200,000 and reduced to $20,000 and placed on ankle monitor for the incident out of Bradley County.
Based on his previous violent charges in which he was out on bond for and the likely hood of re-offending his bond was set in this case in Drew County by Judge Crews Puryear at $750,000.
This investigation is still on going at this time as we are developing information on more suspects involved. Further arrest will be made soon. If you or anyone you know have any further information please contact Lt. Rick Harvey or Sheriff Tim Nichols at the Drew County Sheriff’s Office.
Thank you,
Sheriff Tim Nichols
