🐟 Fish Stocking Update: 540,000+ Bass Added to District 5 (Southeast Arkansas)! 🎣
Our Fisheries staff have been hitting the water to boost your local bass populations! We recently stocked approximately 470,000 Florida-strain Largemouth Bass fingerlings across seven district lakes, plus another 60,000 Northern-strain fingerlings into Pools 3-5 of the Arkansas River.
Even better? Lake Monticello received 17,000 special fingerlings spawned from the Legacy Lunker that was caught and returned to the lake this spring! 🧬✨
📍 Where the Fish Went:
Lake Chicot: 250k
Cane Creek: 100k
Coal Pile: 30k
Grand Lake: 30k
Merrisach: 25k
Lake Wallace: 20k
Lake Wilson: 12k
Arkansas River (Pools 3, 4, & 5): 20k each
🚤 By stocking via boat, our biologists can hand-deliver these fingerlings right into prime real estate—like thick vegetation and woody brush. Giving these little guys immediate cover from predators means higher survival rates.
We focus heavily on Florida-strain bass because they have greater growth potential. Better survival rates plus massive growth potential means one thing: an even better trophy bass fishery for Arkansas anglers! 🙌
